Market Description

Every Sunday in Palo Alto, California Avenue closes off to cars and hosts a bustling farmers' market featuring prepared foods, live music, several art and craft vendors and tons of local producers. Open year-round, this market comes alive in the warm South Bay morning sunshine and is frequented by families from nearby neighborhoods with a healthy dose of Stanford students added to the mix. The Caltrain station right down the street also makes this an easy market to visit via public transportation. There is ample street parking and a growing trend of bicyclists shopping into their helmets and joggers wearing cool toe-shoes and sporting special produce-running-packs. Speaking of alternative totes - be sure to bring your own bags, as this market is plastic free.

One of Happy Boy's newer markets, I quickly fell in love with Palo Alto and truly appreciate our customers there - they really know their stuff when it comes to local, organic produce. Our stand has grown each summer as we try to accommodate people's ever expanding tastes, and I'm coming to realize that some customers will know more about new, speciality items - like fava leaves, stinging nettles and watercress - than I do. During the calmer winter markets we love talking recipes with our favorite foodie-shoppers who brave the cooler temps for year-round local produce. More than a few recipes on this website originated right in the stand, and even our stand neighbors like to get involved by offering pairing suggestions with their own unique ingredients. And, for those who might think the only thing missing from local markets is a good bagel, Izzy's Bagel shop is located directly behind our stand, offering up some of the freshest, tastiest bagels I've ever eaten {that also go great with our sliced spring onions, dry farmed tomatoes, cucumbers and fresh dill}.
